Heidi Latsky

Heidi Latsky is a Canadian-born dancer and choreographer originally from Montreal, best known as the founder and artistic director of Heidi Latsky Dance, a physically integrated dance company based in New York City. Her work has been presented internationally at major cultural institutions including the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, and the National Portrait Gallery. Latsky’s personal history — including the long illness and passing of her mother, Sandra Latsky — has influenced her artistic work. Although she shares the surname Latsky, she is not part of my mother’s family tree. Latsky

My family line in South Africa begins with Jan Latsky, who arrived at the Cape around 1792. The surname Latsky is of Polish origin and is linked to the region and town of Łask in central Poland, which is where our forebears are believed to have come from before coming to the Cape by ship.
